Christy is one of the founding members of Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club and serves as the Director of Volleyball Operations for the organization. Christy brings over 20 years of coaching and leadership experience to Carolina Legacy. She was most recently the Director of Volleyball for Carolina Explosion. Prior to Carolina Explosion, Christy was a Director with Jammers Volleyball Club overseeing the operations of the South Granville satellite program for 5 years.
A native of Northeast Ohio, Christy began coaching volleyball in 1991 at the age of 20. She was introduced to club volleyball when she moved to the Chicago-Metro area in 1995 (Bottom Line Volleyball, Aurora IL) and was named the Head Volleyball Coach for Mooseheart High School (Batavia, IL). While at Mooseheart, Christy led her team to a 3rd place finish in the Indian Trail Conference and their first invitation to the state playoffs in school history. After taking time off to raise her busy sons, Christy re-entered the coaching world in 2012 when her family relocated to Granville County, NC. She was the Head Coach at South Granville from 2013-2016, earning 4 conference titles, 4 conference tournament titles, was the 2014 2A NCHSAA Volleyball State Runner-Up, the 2015 2A NCHSAA Volleyball State Champion, the 2013 Coach of the Year for the Northern Carolina Conference, and the 2015 Coach of the Year for the State of North Carolina. During this same time, Christy met Michael Hodge, the president and founder of Jammers Volleyball Club. Together they collaborated with the goal to bring a quality club experience to Granville County, and with that vision, Jammers SG was born. Christy ran Jammers SG successfully from 2012-2018. During those 6 years, Christy’s Jammers SG teams had championship finishes at Queen City Classic, Winter Bump, Carolina Region East/West Championships, a top 3 finish at Capitol Hill Classic, and a top 9 finish at Big South Classic National Qualifier. She also ran a beach volleyball program in the summer. Each year, many of her beach players earned bids that qualified them to play in the USAV Beach National Championships. In 2018, Christy was hired as the Director of Volleyball for Carolina Explosion Volleyball, a new club in Wake Forest, NC. In her two years at Carolina Explosion, the club grew from 7 teams to 11 teams. In those 2 seasons, her teams won titles at Carolina Kick-Off, Winter Bump, Queen City, K2 Presidents Day Bash, East/West Championships for the Carolina Region, and a second-place finish at Capitol Hill Classic. As part of Carolina Explosion, she also created and developed a successful beach and youth program that introduced nearly 200 young players to the game of volleyball.
Why I coach: “For me, coaching is about building relationships and being invested in the kids. Volleyball is such a great teacher of life lessons and playing a small part in a player’s journey is a special responsibility for me.” “Oh and winning, winning is nice too.”
